Bangalore city is witnessing high growth in the last decades. The population of the city which was 85Lakhs as per 2011 census is expected to cross more than one crore mark by the year 2016. On the one side increasing population and on the other side there is inadequate infrastructure such as improper roads, insufficient water and electricity supply. The residents are facing lot of problems.

The summer has already started and many localities in the city are reeling under severe shortage of water supply. Due to scanty rainfall, drying up of water bodies, rampant drilling of borewells, the ground water level has also gone deeper. To meet the growing water requirement of the city the authorities must act on a war footing to rejuvenate the remaining water bodies through a scientific approach. The wastage of water from supply lines must be plugged effectively by proper monitoring and replacing the old supply lines.

The citizens are suffering due to unscheduled severe power cuts in the city. The conventional hydro electric power is inadequate to meet the demands of the households, industries, business establishments etc. The authorities must think of harnessing power from renewable energy sources mainly solar energy to meet the future power requirement of the city.

The city roads in many localities are in very bad conditions. The city roads are getting choked with the ever increasing private vehicles due to inadequate, inefficient, unreliable public transport system. To encourage people to utilize public transport system, the authorities must take prompt action to make it efficient and reliable. The roads must be well maintained devoid of innumerable potholes as at present, which can be seen even on the important main roads in many localities. The traffic congestion can be eased to certain extent if different timings are fixed for Schools, Colleges, Government and Private offices, Shopping and Business establishments.

Unless the concerned authorities take urgent effective steps to solve and improve the infrastructure conditions, mere growth of the city in an unplanned manner becomes meaningless and is bound to create more problems in future.
